A few years ago I was going through some challenges in my life, and I read a book called “Feel the Fear and Do It Anyway.” Whenever I had a big decision to make or I was scared, I would think of that book and think, “What’s the worst that can happen?” And if it wasn’t detrimental, I would do it anyway, in spite of the fear. So when it came to my USANA business, it was difficult because I had to take a chance. This was my livelihood, the only thing I would have to support myself. But I decided to face the fear and approach people anyway. When I mentioned it to my clients at the time, some of them would get upset and say they had come to get their hair done, not to hear about vitamins or network marketing. Some of them even quit coming back, but I had made my decision to share USANA. Even my children were like, “Mom, isn’t there something else you can talk about!” It was a challenge, but I didn’t stop because I had made up my mind—I knew where I was going and nothing was going to stop me.
So, yes, along the way I had some people give up on me, but I guess they just weren’t meant to be part of my life. There were so many people who cheered me on, though, and who were supportive and proud of me. Many of them even joined me, and now almost everybody who works in my salon is part of the business. Now my children tell me, “Mom, you’re my idol. We’re so proud of you—you turned your life around in four and a half years!” My daughter just became a Silver Director and Platinum PaceSetter! I couldn’t be more blessed and thankful for USANA. I’m so thankful for my team and upline who believed in me, but most importantly I believed in myself.
Now, I want you to listen to this because this is important: stick to your upline! Stick with anybody who feels like the right person to work with because in the beginning it’s so easy to get discouraged. People will tell you no—that you’ve lost your mind. But you just keep doing what you’re doing. Listen to CDs, do whatever keeps you motivated. In the beginning I went to a Health & Freedom Presentation every single Thursday. I still do! And that’s the key—stay connected, stay motivated, and just move on and take one day at a time. You don’t have to see exactly where you’re going, you just have to know where you want to be. Make your decision and then take one step at a time. That’s the path that has worked for me. It has been an incredible journey and this is just the beginning!
Today I’m a 1-Star Diamond Director. I’m doing very well financially, and I don’t have to do hair even though I have the passion for it. But now I have a passion for health and USANA. My passion is helping others realize their dreams. I believe that we are born rich—we are born fearless—and then something happens that conditions us to think “I can’t do this or that,” or “I don’t deserve this or that.” In a way, I feel a little thankful that I wasn’t programmed like that. All my life I tried to do better because I always believed there was something better. I never stopped believing or trying, so building my business is just second nature.
